I can’t believe I just got back from Becky’s second Level 7 Meet and I haven’t yet posted her scores for the first one! Ah well, two birds with one stone etc. etc.
I raced back from the Dodge Poetry Festival to attend her first one at Cherry Hill two weeks ago, and she rewarded my effort with the following:
Vault: 9.0 (4th)
Bars: 8.825 (2nd)
Beam:9.55 (2nd)
Floor: 9.05 (5th)
All Around: 36.426 (3rd)
Great scores for her first outing as a seven! But even better (I think!) these weren’t scores reflecting the best she could do. She missed the birdie perch on Bars (an easy level 5 move) and flubbed the last tumbling pass on Floor. Most importantly she qualified easily for the Sectional meet, which was this morning.
Sectionals are scored more severely, with two judges each rating every performance rather than one, so I was not expecting to see her scores rise. Nonetheless, she actually did slightly better on Vault and Bars (despite flubbing the birdie perch again!), about the same on Floor, and a little worse on Beam (no big problem, but her previous routine was almost flawless–the only reason she came second not first is that ties are broken by the all around score.)
Vault: 9.15
Bars: 8.9
Beam: 9.175
Floor: 9.025
All Around: 36.25
Note that I’m not putting her places up. The organizers of the gym accidentally switched age groups for her and her 12 year old friend Abby, so they had Becky up against the 12+ age group. She still came second All Around even with that handicap!
Anyway, she only needed 32 to qualify for the State Championship (Rutgers in January) which she clearly achieved handsomely. So now she can relax and work Level 8 skills while maintaining her 7 Routines.
Next weekend is the first home meet and I will be at the gym ALL WEEKEND. Still, she is so worth it!
